Waiting for a long western train to go by in the dark of night gives a man time to reflect. He knows he is desperately wanted in Philadelphia where Cady, his only child is waiting to give birth to his first grandchild, yet when old Lucian Connally, the ex-Sheriff of Asaroka, Wyoming call in a favour, Walt Longmire, the current Sheriff, knows he has to go along for the ride.

This is a dark duty. Gerald Holman, a cop buddy of Lucian's had committed suicide. His widow, Phyllis, does not believe that could be the case and wants them to investigate. As Walt states digging, he discovers an interesting pattern in the cold file cases that Gerald had been investigating before he supposedly killed himself. But, as Walt investigates and pulls the rug up in the snowy small towns in Wyoming to see what is underneath, he discovers a lot of ruthless people who will stop at nothing to stop Walt from finding out the truth. Once off and running on a case, Walt does not back down, but Cady needs him. Time is rapidly running out. What can he do? What are people covering up and why is he suddenly in so much danger?

ANY OTHER NAME is the eleventh book in the Walt Longmire Mystery series by the bestselling and very talented writer Craig Johnson and it is sure to be a top whistle blowing hit with his many fans, both from the pure entertainment and suspense provided by his previous books and as well as from the hit A&E TV series, Longmire, based on and inspired by the Longmire books.

I have to confess that I just love Johnson's books: they are very well researched, full of memorable and very colourful and difference characters, and totally unexpected and suspenseful plot developments. I also particularly like the way Craig Johnson is so masterful in weaving in very interesting and unexpected tidbits of information and making them naturally part of the plot.

ANY OTHER NAME is darker that some of his earlier words and as a reader, you will be quickly swirled into the blustery and blinding western snowstorms and feeling every bit of adrenalin and pain that Walt experiences. Yet, offsetting that darkness is the brightness of the wit and dialogue that burns and crackles like a bonfire in the night, sending off unexpected sparks of delight. These sparks certainly flare when Vic Moretti, Walt's undersheriff, arrives on the scene in a most unexpected way.

ANY OTHER NAME certainly captivates my attention and I am sure readers will find it equally engrossing and dramatic all the way through to its perfect 10 of an ending! If you have never read a Longmire book before, this is the time to get onboard; if you are already a fan, you know this is the ticket to a wonderful read! It is an exciting train ride you will definitely not want to miss! Enjoy!

Book Summary

A sheriff’s mysterious death spurs the new novel in the New York Times bestselling Walt Longmire series

Sheriff Walt Longmire had already rounded up a sizable posse of devoted readers when the A&E television series Longmire sent the Wyoming lawman’s popularity skyrocketing. Now, with three consecutive New York Times bestsellers to his name and the second season of Longmire reaching an average of 5.4 million viewers per episode, Craig Johnson is reaching a fan base that is both fiercely loyal and ever growing.

In Any Other Name, Walt is sinking into high- plains winter discontent when his former boss, Lucian Conally, asks him to take on a mercy case in an adjacent county. Detective Gerald Holman is dead and Lucian wants to know what drove his old friend to take his own life. With the clock ticking on the birth of his first grandchild, Walt learns that the by-the-book detective might have suppressed evidence concerning three missing women. Digging deeper, Walt uncovers an incriminating secret so dark that it threatens to claim other lives even before the sheriff can serve justice—Wyoming style.
