Raina Richmond is a good girl. She's smart, gets excellent grades in school, and never breaks the rules. Her parents love her but they work a lot in a lab that Raina knows little about. They do insist that she take a special vitamin every morning, though, and sometimes Raina wonders why they are so insistent about that. She even wonders what would happen if she decided not to take it one morning. But she would never disobey her parents.

There are some new things going on in Raina's life lately, though, that are causing her to question whether everything she has ever believed about herself and her life are true. It all seems to start with the day she meets the new boy in school, Brent Alexander. He seems to be quite drawn to her, which is something new to Raina. She doesn't date because she never sees that guys are interested in her. But Brent attaches himself to her and is relentless in his pursuit.

When Raina realizes that she is also attracted to him, they start to get to know each other better. But Raina feels very connected to Brent almost immediately and she doesn't understand that. She is full of questions but she may not be ready for the answers that she gets as they will change her life in ways that she never thought possible.

It is hard to say a lot about ETERNAL MIXTURE without giving away the rather unique plotline. Shevaun DeLucia has created a special place in the ordinary world that takes the reader beyond the realm of normalcy. She has an excellent grasp of teenagers/young adults and how they think. The reader is taken by the hand and led into a magical forest of danger and love that lasts forever. I found myself drawn into this world and wishing that it could be real.

More than once I hated having to stop reading it to take care of the mundane things in my world. ETERNAL MIXTURES is a book that will capture you from the beginning and hold you in its very firm grasp until the final page. Raina and Brent are characters that you don't want to leave and hope to hear more from in the future.

Ms. Delucia is a remarkable new writer that I will be keeping an eye on. She has left me thirsty for her next book.
