In the first of a brand new series called Extreme Risk, SHREDDED explores the cold, exhilarating snowy slopes of Park City, Utah, where a professional snowboarder named Z Michaels busies himself with sex and shredding the slopes. Behind the easy-going personality is a darker secret that he keeps hidden away.

Ophelia Richardson finds herself in Utah, hiding from a past that involves a bad accident. Though she stems from a high society, Ophelia has a spark to her that ignites something in Z. Upon their first meeting, Z tries to put on his moves, but it only creates more tension as Ophelia plainly tells him to back off. Z becomes intrigued by her spark, seeing it as a challenge to conquer.

SHREDDED by Tracy Wolff explores alternating points of view between Ophelia and Z. I had a really hard time enjoying Z's character. His narration seemed forced and downplayed his intelligence for a man of twenty-one years old. He came off as too arrogant, and where Ophelia starts off as disliking Z, the change happens too swiftly to be believable.

Ophelia's narration was easier to read, more likable and interesting. However, Z's best friends Ash and Cam, were the most interesting to read about. The dialogue between Z and Ophelia often seemed contrived, going for a more flirty nature but didn't take off as much as I would have liked. There was a lot of sex, but little chemistry. As a result, the romance didn't build in a natural way, making it difficult for me to connect with the characters.

A blazing story from start to finish, SHREDDED's romance progressed too quickly for my taste. However, while Z and Ophelia didn't work for me, Tracy Wolff's secondary characters, Ash and Cam, promise to be entertaining heroes in the next Extreme Risk books.

Book Summary

In the intense and exhilarating Extreme Risk series debut, a hotshot snowboarder and a rebel with a cause try to let go of the past—and find a future with each other.

Twenty-one-year-old professional snowboarder Z Michaels is the bad boy of Park City, Utah. He’s always had his pick of any girl in town—and on the competition circuit. But underneath his cool exterior is a young man in turmoil, trying to take the edge off tragedy by overindulging in sex and shredding the slopes. In fact, Z’s rash behavior is a thinly veiled attempt to blunt his emotional suffering with physical pain.

Ophelia Richardson isn’t like any girl Z has ever met. Though she’s from New Orleans, she’s no Southern belle—and she’s not shy about being miserable in frozen, godforsaken Park City. But after nearly dying in the same drag-racing accident that killed her boyfriend, she needs a place to heal, both physically and emotionally. The last thing Ophelia wants right now is a boyfriend—especially one as rich and reckless as Z. But Ophelia soon discovers that he isn’t what he seems. If anything, Z may be even more damaged than she is.

Feeling alone in the world, Z and Ophelia find a connection unlike any they’ve ever known. But their tormented pasts pull them in every direction, forcing their relationship into a downhill slide before it even begins—unless they can find the strength in each other to trust, grow, and love again.
