Lane McEvoy is comfortable inside the wall, safe from the virus. She could be happier what with her dad being gone a lot, but things aren't too bad. When she is taken by the police and hears her father is accused of being a criminal, she has no choice but to go over the wall to find him. Over the wall, she finds adventure and terrors she never imagined.

INHUMAN by Kat Falls is a unique and exciting read. The setting is different from what I expected, but it is molded extremely well. The idea of 'manimals' as part of a virus is refreshing, and the almost Walking Dead-esque feel to the world beyond the wall makes for a powerful pace and plot. I especially like how it includes the right amount of science to fit the world, but not too much to go over your head.

While there is a love triangle in this story, it works very well for the characters. Everson, Rafe, and Lane build off of each other as characters in positive and negative ways, and romance is not the main focus of the story. Even so, there are several swoony moments between Lane and both guys that get your heart pounding and make for a nice touch.

My favorite part of this story is the twist on one of the antagonists. I didn't see it coming, but the highlight of how sometimes it's human nature that drives people crazy, not animal nature, gives the story a unique feel. The course of discovering the villain is logical, thrilling, and even frightening.

INHUMAN is a great read for anyone who enjoys dystopian-type worlds and fast paced plot. I highly enjoyed it, and I hope there is more to this series!

Book Summary

Never let them tame you.

In the wake of a devastating biological disaster, the United States east of the Mississippi has been abandoned. Now called the Feral Zone, a reference to the virus that turned millions of people into bloodthirsty savages, the entire area is off-limits. The punishment for violating the border is death.

Lane McEvoy can't imagine why anyone would risk it. She's grown up in the shadow of the great wall separating east from west, and she's curious about what's on the other side - but not that curious. Life in the west is safe and comfortable . . . just how she likes it.

But Lane gets the shock of her life when she learns that someone close to her has crossed into the Feral Zone. And she has little choice but to follow. Lane travels east, completely unprepared for what she finds in the ruins of civilization . . . and afraid to learn whether her humanity will prove her greatest strength or a fatal weakness.

Kat Falls brings you to the very edge of civilization and dares you to jump.
