Drew and Fable's story is far from over. Monica Murphy returns with the second part of their story in SECOND CHANCE BOYFRIEND, giving Drew another chance of fixing the wrongs he made in the last book. That being said, there is a cliffhanger ending in the first book of the series. Therefore, it's important to read this series in order. After the big mistake that Drew made, Fable is trying to go on with her life. However, their paths cross once again, making it impossible to forget what they had.

The touch of angst is well suited to this book and definitely made me connect with the characters on a deeper level. However, I would have loved to have seen more of their thoughts, delving into the deeper workings of their minds to really understand their characters inside out. I find that Murphy's writing flows very well, creating an ease as you read. Yet it doesn't always penetrate past the surface, hitting right at the matter which I think would have improved this book. It also lacks an epilogue and after everything that Drew and Fable have been through, I think it is needed to really solidify the fact that this is where they truly want to be.

Murphy's authorial voice is very well suited to New Adult. It never once felt forced or contrived. Drew's POV in particular was really fascinating to me. His vulnerabilities are well displayed in this book and how he overcomes them is always interesting to read about. Fable becomes an important part of that process.

All in all, SECOND CHANCE BOYFRIEND is a well-done and satisfying follow-up to its predecessor.

Book Summary

From breakout New Adult author Monica Murphy comes the exhilarating conclusion to Drew and Fable’s story—the star-crossed young romance that began in One Week Girlfriend.

Lost. Everything in my life can be summed up by that one sickening word. My football coach blames me for our season-ending losses. So does the rest of the team. I wasted two whole months drowning in my own despair, like a complete loser. And I lost my girlfriend—Fable Maguire, the only girl who ever mattered—because I was afraid that being with me would only hurt her.

But now I realize that I’m the one who’s truly lost without her. And even though she acts like she’s moved on and everything’s fine, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. I know her too well. She’s so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is be there to help her . . . to hold her . . . to love her.

I just need her to give me one more chance. We may be lost without each other, but together, we’re destined to find a love that lasts forever.
