Her father Jack has been missing for over six weeks. There are some clues, but nothing has panned out. Maxie has dumped Roberto after having a very heated argument. Now several hours later, Roberto's body is found. Maxie of course is the first suspect. Maxie has no idea who would have killed Roberto; she just knows that she didn't. In a strange twist of fate, her step sister is arrested for the murder. Come to find out, Sylvia was living with him, but Roberto used a different name. They parted on really bad terms as they were in competition together and he stole one of her winning ideas.

Nick is the security guard for the chili cook off circuit. Not that he wants to get involved in the murder of Roberto, but Maxie, drags him into it. So together they try and solve this murder. Apparently several people had it out for him. Not only did Roberto have many enemies but he also went by a lot of different names.

Some of the people on the circuit knew him, but everyone is keeping secrets. Nick and Maxie have to drag information out of them, because no one is telling. After stumbling on some important info, can Nick and Maxie finally solve this case and move on to look for her missing father.

One of the reasons that I enjoyed Kylie Logan's book is because it had humor and mystery. Not only that, but at the end it includes recipes of some of the foods that were mentioned in the book. Since some of the food made my mouth water, I was really glad to see the recipes at the end. Since the missing father was not found in this book I am sure that there are going to be more to this series.
