Vampire Dougal Kincaid is tired of his friends trying to make him feel better about losing his hand while doing battle with Malcontents. All he wants is to get back into active duty and prove he still has what it takes to protect mortals from evil vampires. When he's offered the position of head of security for Romatech, Dougal knows it's his chance to get back into the thick of things. He never factored in his reaction to Romatech's newest scientist, Leah. One look at Leah and Dougal's dragon tattoo begins to burn. Dougal thinks he may have found his reincarnated love but his guilt makes him feel like he's not worthy of her, even three hundred years later. When Leah is thrust into the path of a demon and a dangerous vampire, Dougal will have to decide what he wants more, Leah or redemption.
Kerrelyn Sparks adds another exhilarating read to the Love at Stake series with THE VAMPIRE WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Though this is now book fourteen, I am still enjoying this series as much as I did the first time I picked up a Love at Stake book. While some series get stale after a certain number of books, Sparks has been able to keep things fresh and interesting by focusing on each individual story while treating readers to glimpses of the characters they've fallen in love with.
One of my favorite things about this series is that it's not all vampires or all shifters. Sparks changes it up, thus keeping the reader immersed in her growing world. Dougal has been a favorite for many a reader, especially after he lost his hand during battle, and the fact that the man wears a kilt doesn't hurt either. Readers will love seeing him get his happily ever after in THE VAMPIRE WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Anyone who has ever felt socially awkward will be able to relate to Leah and understand where she's coming from. As always, I can't wait to see what Sparks has in store for us after this but until then, go pick up this entire series. You'll be addicted.
Book Summary
Dougal Kincaid wasn't trying to scare Leah Chen when she saw
him...er...handling the life–size Romatech blood doll
VANNA. And he really wasn't trying to scare her when he
accidentally pulled the doll's arm off, spraying Leah with
blood.
Incidents like these seem to keep happening to the
Scottish warrior vampire. Ever since he lost his hand in
battle and has been struggling with a prosthesis, Dougal's
sure he's the laughing stock of the clan. But when
geneticist Leah arrives, anxious to solve the case of a
mutant prisoner, he's suddenly tongue–tied–and
very interested. But can she ever see past his gruff, clumsy
exterior?
Leah doesn't believe in vampires. At least, that's what
she keeps telling herself as she joins their ranks and works
alongside some of the world's most talented scientists.
Nevermind their fangs. And the quiet kilted one? He's the
most fascinating of all.
But when Leah's life is in danger, Dougal must put his
fears behind him and find a way to save her–hand or no
hand. A daring rescue that circumvents the globe, he's on a
mission to save the woman of his dreams...
