The Mennonite community of Kingdom, Kansas is a safe haven for families to live and raise their children. They believe they are free from outside pressures and dangers until a young lady stumbles into Cora's Corner Cafe with some terrifying news. She has discovered a dead body just outside of town. Lizzie and Noah Housler own Cora's and Callie Hoffman works there. The town is all a-buzz at the news and everyone migrates to the café to learn more about this incident. Three other bodies have been found recently in this county, and police believe there is a serial killer on the loose. Levi Housler is Noah's brother and the young pastor of Kingdom Mennonite Church. He's also engaged to Callie, and their wedding is only a few short weeks away. Because Levi's Book of Martyrs is found with this dead body, the police suspect Levi and take him in for questioning. Callie is devastated. Could Levi do such a thing?

A terrible snowstorm hits the area and Callie and Levi are stranded at the café. It's a compromising situation until Noah comes to rescue them. As Noah takes Callie back to his and Lizzie's home, they have a wreck on the icy road, and Noah is hurt very badly. Callie makes her way through the snowstorm to Lizzie's for help. She doesn't realize how badly she is hurt too. After spending days in the hospital with a collapsed lung, Callie is recuperating at Lizzie's when the serial killer comes for her. Will help reach her in time?

UNFORESEEABLE is a riveting, inspirational thriller you do not want to miss. There's a little romance with lots of suspense and mystery in this compelling novel. It is filled with strong characters whose dialogue questions many traditions of the Mennonite church. Several characters feel a need to examine their own feelings about living the traditional life just because it has been handed down to them through their families. They want to find out who they are and what they believe for themselves. It's a story with themes about weathering the storms in our lives, being insecure and about forgiveness. There are many twists, turns and surprising discoveries in this story that makes it truly an "unforeseeable" experience. This is the third book in Nancy Mehl's Road to Kingdom series, and I highly recommend this delightful story.

Book Summary

Mystery, Romance, and Suspense Seamlessly Combined in a Mennonite Small-Town Setting

Callie Hoffman knows she has a good life in Kingdom, Kansas. She's thrilled to be engaged to Levi Housler, the new pastor of Kingdom Mennonite Church, and she spends her days working with her friend and soon-to-be sister-in-law, Lizzie Housler, at Cora's Cafe.

However, Callie's idyllic life is interrupted when a body is discovered on the road outside Kingdom and the deceased turns out to be a victim of a serial killer. As Washington County's new sheriff begins questioning Kingdom residents, Callie and the rest of the town are appalled at the prospect of a killer among them. The very reason Kingdom exists is to protect the people from the temptations and dangers of the outside world, but all the town founders' attempts to plan ahead couldn't prevent a threat like this.

Unsettled at this unforeseen danger, Callie is concerned when it appears Levi knows more than he's telling. Desperate to find answers for herself, Callie never expected that she'd have to face some of her own past's skeletons.

As Callie and the residents of Kingdom fear this danger for which they never planned, they must learn anew that only God knows the future and their trust must always lie in Him.
