A small plane crashes into a cornfield near Buffalo, and Anna Quinn's brother was the pilot. An FBI Special Agent finds her and tells her that her brother had previously asked him to call her if anything happened to him. Anna thinks it is ironic that the plane crashed onto an Amish farm, but she has to go through the ordeal of identifying the body.

In PLAIN PURSUIT, Anna learns that a girl was in the plane too and is badly injured. Anna's partly in shock and would have a long drive home from the hospital, so Agent Eli offers her room for the night with his parents, who are also Amish. Eli explains that he decided to leave the community and just pays occasional visits. As a school counselor, Anna regrets not having talked more to her brother. Eli is investigating a cold case of a little girl who died ten years ago, and her brother might have witnessed something that night just before he joined up as a soldier. Now it's too late to ask him... and it seems that she's not universally popular.

Anna is nicely concerned when she sees two young boys bouncing as a buggy travels; no seat belts here. While the Amish don't favour higher education or getting involved in policing, Eli has no problem calling in the FAA to investigate the cause of the plane crash, and the dead pilot's obsession with photography is questioned.

There is steady progress in both cases and the restrictive family life of the Amish is explored, so much so that we don't even notice the romance element creeping up on us until suddenly we're thinking of Anna and Eli as making a good couple. This is Alison Stone's first time to write an Amish romance story and seeing the community in NY through a city girl's eyes makes a very interesting background for PLAIN PURSUIT.

Book Summary

Danger in Amish Country

When her brother is killed in a small Amish town, Anna Quinn discovers she's an unwelcome outsider. But the FBI agent investigating the case is right at home—because Eli Miller was born and raised in Apple Creek's Plain community. Eli left his Amish faith behind long ago, but his heart is rooted in a local cold case he can't forget—a mystery with strange connections to Anna's loss. Desperate to uncover the truth, Anna and Eli are faced with stony silences and secrets…secrets that someone wants to keep buried in the past.
