GAME ON takes us inside the world of professional American football, from paperwork and publicity to down and dirty on the field. Coach Richardson has personal issues as his wife is battling cancer, and Carly's closeness to the family is misinterpreted by Shane who imagines she's seeing the coach. In fact Carly has an admirer who's pretty near to being a stalker, and a notorious background which keeps the press interested in her. When the stalker grabs Carly in a social setting, Shane rescues her by improvidently throwing a punch at the guy, and a media frenzy begins.
This adult novel by Tracy Solheim places more emphasis on the background of running a team than on game play, though there is plenty of play in the bedroom, and we see why pro athletes are in demand. Rounding off the characters however we see Shane with a young brother who wants to live with him and runs away from home to do just that. Anyone interested in this sport might enjoy this read, and Solheim has a follow-up in the works, 'Foolish Games' for later this year. GAME ON is more about the people than the football and should appeal to women who want a look behind the scenes.
Book Summary
The only way to win is to score…
With a reputation for fast moves on the gridiron and even faster moves off the field, Shane Devlin was a player in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, his bad-boy persona has made him a risky prospect as a quarterback, and only the Baltimore Blaze are willing to give him a chance. And he’s about to take a hit he never expected.
Working for the Blaze, Carly March knows too well how jocks think—and what they think with—so she’s always made a point of keeping them at arm’s length. But when she shares a kiss with the devilishly handsome Shane, she finds it hard to play by her own rules—and even harder to resist him.
