Wow, thumbs up for Matt Coyle! YESTERDAY'S ECHO is the first book that he has ever written. I have to say, I can't wait for the next one.

Matt Coyle's story line has suspense, romance, mystery and friendship. From the first page I was hooked. The other item that I really liked is that there is a Black Lab in the book named Midnight. I have a black lab, so I was very happy about that. I was right there in this book. Even though the main character is a man, you could have just changed the name and it could have been a woman.

Meet Rick Cahill, a former policeman. Rick is off the force as he was once a suspect in his wife's murder. He is now a part owner of a restaurant. Or he at least thinks that he is. He meets a woman named Melody and the mystery begins. Just when Rick feels that he is changing his life, something else comes up. We also meet Turk. He and Turk run the restaurant together. Turk also has some things that he is hiding. It also shows us how even though you and your best friend fight. In the end, no matter what, you will always be there for your friend.

Matt Coyle gets you right into the story from the very first page. His descriptions whether he is talking about the restaurant business or being a cop, bring you right into the story. Some of the story reminds me of the old movies black and white PI movies. The PI always takes and a case and than has to dodge the gangster.

Matt Coyle is going to give some of the mystery writers a run for their money. His writing reminds me of something James Patterson would write. I am hoping that in his next book we will continue to see the main character be Rick Cahill. I do like when authors bring the main character back.

Book Summary

Rick Cahill was never convicted of his wife's murder, but he was never exonerated either. Not by the police. Not by the media. Not even by himself. Eight years later, police suspicion and his own guilt remain over his responsibility in his wife's death.

When he meets Melody Malana, a beautiful yet secretive TV reporter, he sees a chance to love again. When she is arrested for murder and asks Rick for help, the former cop says no, but the rest of him says yes and he grasps at a chance for redemption. But Rick's attempt to help turns terribly wrong, and he becomes a suspect in the murder and the target of a police manhunt.

On the run, Rick encounters desperate people who'll kill to keep their pasts buried. Before Rick can save himself and bring down a murderer, he must confront the truth about his own past and untangle his feeling for a woman he can never fully trust.
