Living up to her reputation, Quinn, who hates to be called by her first name, goes out hunting a werewolf. Due to a stupid miscalculation, she switches from predator to prey when she has a bite taken out of her. Fortunately, she is rescued by a vampire, but that vampire has a vendetta to settle. Now Quinn is a pawn in a game where she does not know the rules. What has become of her once simple life?
Kathleen Tierney darkens our minds with a gritty urban fantasy. She introduces us to a heroine who is rather brash and abrasive, and very rarely likeable. Quinn has led a harsh life, and it is through her eyes that the story is told. We meet quite a range of unique characters, but we only receive glimpses as they pertain to Quinn's life. The story is told in spurts, and our narrator navigates us through detours leaving us wondering where exactly we are going. BLOOD ORANGES is definitely an acquired taste. It is certainly not everyone's cup of tea where a sip may turn you off immediately, or it may leave you wanting to experience all it has to offer. I am still not certain the tea was to my liking, but I am not opposed to giving it another try.
Book Summary
"My name's Quinn. If you buy into my reputation, I'm the most notorious demon hunter in New England. But rumors of my badassery have been slightly exaggerated. Instead of having kung-fu skills and a closet full of medieval weapons, I'm an ex-junkie with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time. Or the right place at the wrong time. Or...whatever. Wanted for crimes against inhumanity I (mostly) didn't commit, I was nearly a midnight snack for a werewolf until I was "saved" by a vampire calling itself the Bride of Quiet. Already cursed by a werewolf bite, the vamp took a pint out of me too. So now...now, well, you wouldn't think it could get worse, but you'd be dead wrong"--
