Damon Hunter is a young attorney from the Bradfield Douglass Law Firm who recently drew up the will for billionaire Selwyn Chancellor leaving nearly his entire fortune to his late son's only daughter Carol. Though estranged after Adam Chancellor's sudden tragic death, her grandfather kept close watch on her even after her mother remarried and had him adopt her. Upon her grandfather's death Damon becomes the GUARDIAN TO THE HEIRESS.

Carol is needless to say shocked that she was mentioned in the will let alone the heiress to the Chancellor fortune. She had believed that none of her father's family cared about her, but Damon is quick to put a lie to that and begins to help the young heiress find her way in a world she was not prepared to be in. His biggest problem is his own attraction to the young beauty. He finds she is beautiful, inside and out, with a generous warmth and high intelligence that keeps him on his toes.

Almost right away she finds that there are a number of people she must learn to deal with, simple things like a housekeeper who completely ignores the fact that she owns the house. Harder to handle is her uncle's wife whose hatred can be felt toward her, and her cousin who completely ignores the fact that they are first cousins and comes on to her. Even her own mother who had done little but tolerate and lie to her, is now suddenly expecting to be part of her life.

While she is learning to deal, she comes to realize that Damon fears getting romantically involved with her, for his own reputation as well as hers, knowing others would think he took up with her for her money. With this new world fraught with danger, duplicity and intrigue can she make Damon understand that falling in love with her isn't a bad thing? It's the only thing that makes sense.

GUARDIAN TO THE HEIRESS is a well-written, warm romance, with enough dashes of human intrigue that you won't be able to put it down. You feel you are there as the young woman finds her place in the new world, but she stays true to herself with her own goals and plans. I love Margaret Way's books. They are so well written that you can almost hear the Aussie accents. I have always wanted to visit Australia and someday I will, but until then I will depend on Ms. Way's books to take me there.
