THE CLOUD just might keep you up at night, and if not, it most certainly will have you thinking of the future of the tech world for children. Anything and everything is possible in THE CLOUD.

Nat Idle enters the subway for a late train, when a mountain of a man staggers into him and knocks Nat onto the tracks with the mountain man on top of him. Nat cracks the back of his head open on the tracks. The man escapes, running out of the subway, but a passerby named Faith helps Nat to his feet. As Nat is exiting the Subway, he picks up a paper that the man dropped, with Nat's name on it. He comes to believe that this was no accident. He then befriends Faith who he had seen talking to the man who almost killed him and they both go on a fast and furious journey. Racing down highways, tracking down unknown people, very exciting! But Nat does not trust anyone, for since he hit his head, all is not what it seems to be. He's confused, his memory is bad, and he's exhausted, but he is driven to pursue the truth.

When Nat enters the Cloud, his memory is bad, flash backs of his past are tangled and he's not sure what's going on. He thinks it's the almost fatal blow to his head that's causing all the craziness and confusion, but he's driven to find out the truth of it all. The more roads he goes down to find answers, he meets other people who have been hurt, or have lost someone to this crazy ride of future technology designed to help kids learn to multi-task and this may be causing them more harm with deadly side effects.

In the past, Nat being a Journalist had chased down more stories then most Journalists, but his story involves not only his life, but the lives of innocent children. THE CLOUD is a fast moving story and you feel that you are sitting right beside Nat on his very fast journey. Oh, and do go for the ride, it's well worth the read!.

I loved the ending of THE CLOUD, it is an eye opener for Nat and I hear that Mr. Richtel may have another book in the works for Nat Idle. I look forward to reading more of Nat's future. THE CLOUD is a thriller, with a lot of interesting answers and findings.

Book Summary

A late-night accident on a San Francisco subway platform has altered Nat Idle's reality. But then, there are no accidents.

Disoriented and bloodied after a near-deadly fall onto the subway tracks, freelance journalist Nat Idle discovers that a beautiful stranger has come to his aid . . . and that the burly man who barreled into him had intended to do Nat harm. What he doesn't know is why—and his quest for answers leads him to uncover a handful of mysterious deaths, and a bizarre neurological disorder plaguing Bay Area children . . . as he ventures ultimately into the Cloud.

In a brave new world, the Cloud is where we store data, secrets, dreams. But it is something more—something insidious with the power to change not just how we interact with the world, but our behavior, and brains. Nat, in search of the truth, finds himself lost in a psychedelic maze, discovering things that cannot possibly be, realizing there is no one and nothing he can trust . . . not even his own mind.
