Strumming her brother's guitar, Dorothy Lynn Dunbar was happy with her lot in life and especially when she was in her secret forest glen and could sing her songs and be at peace. She liked the folks in the small community of Heron's Nest and she especially liked the new pastor at their church who had replaced her pa when he passed on.

Despite the fact that she felt her mother's hand in getting her and the handsome Rev. Brent Logan together, she is happy to agree to marry him and is thrilled when their engagement is announced in their small country church.

Sent off by her mother to visit her older sister Darlene and her family in St. Louis, Missouri, to get a wedding dress, Dorothy (Aunt Dot to her two noisy and rambunctious nephews) knew life wouldn't be peaceful during her stay.

Despite her pregnancy, her fashionable and big city sister loves to lord it over her and show off the wonders of big city streetcars and movie shows to her country sister. Doing a little exploring on her own, Dorothy is beguiled by the smooth talking and good looking Roland Lundi, assistant to the very charismatic and powerful evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson. Enchanted by the innocence and richness of Dorothy's voice, he manages to get her to audition for Aimee, despite both their protests. In love with her voice, Lundi persuades Dorothy to join their crusade and to go all the way to Los Angeles with them. If she will do that, he promises to help her find her long lost brother.

But, if she does, will Dorothy lose herself and all that is important to her in the process? Can Lundi be trusted? Best-selling Christian inspirational author, Allison Pittmann, has crafted a very intriguing story, full of contrasts in lifestyle choices that spans over a century of living. Effectively setting the stage for Dorothy's story and her choices, Pittman seamlessly moves the story from the bedside birthday celebration of a 107 year old woman to the events and reminisces of life in the exciting flapper era of the 1920s. Interwoven into the rich tapestry of Dorothy's life are the stories of the other members in her family and the impact of the choices they make in life.

Pittman is well known for her skill in character development. While at some levels, the characters are typical of certain types, they are easy to visualize, yet they do not cross the line and come across as caricatures of themselves. Both new and existing Pittman fans are sure to be captivated by the excitement, music and wonder of this fascinating era as seen through Dorothy's eyes! Follow along with Dorothy Lynn on her journey and find out for yourself the important decision this lovely singer has to make!
