Jade went to Haiti as part of a relief team after a devastating earthquake shook the small country. When she returned from the horrible scene, her own life fell apart. A year later, another team is required to sift through the massive burial plot to find the remains of an American family and bring them back to the United States. Jade ultimately returns to Haiti to face her fears and becomes entangled in a situation more sinister and deadly than she could ever imagine.

The locals react unfavorably to the team opening the makeshift tomb. Superstition and prophecy build the suspense, and the plot further deepens when a corpse is uncovered with a manacle attached at the ankle. Now Jade and her team must find out what really happened to some of the deceased.

A mystery peppered with a timid romance, and a steamy sex scene, Dale Mayer spins a complex tale that you won't be able to put down. With a number of separate plots going on simultaneously, TOUCHED BY DEATH has no trouble keeping the reader's attention. Mayer is able to successfully intertwine the plots to bring the book to a satisfying, albeit surprising, conclusion. As usual, her dialogue is brilliant, and Jade and her love interest, Dane, make a great couple. Add in the possibility of a serial killer on top of the number of bodies, and you have a captivating tale from a wonderful storyteller. Ms. Mayer does not disappoint with TOUCHED BY DEATH.

Book Summary

Predators know instinctively a good thing when they see it – whether that is their next victim, or the solution to their current problem. So when an earthquake rips through Haiti, and this killer’s dumping ground is exposed to the world, he has to find another place to hide the grizzly remains of his victims. But just as the earthquake caused a problem, it also provided a solution in the form of quick mass burials for the dead. Thinking he’s free and clear, he can’t help but notice that the chaos of the times has also provided him with a whole new feeding ground.
