Two of the Grimms, or guardians, are appointed to visit the Greek island Crete and investigate a haunted house. Luc is blind and can see through the eyes of his companion dog. Myrsina, or Sina, is not telling him that she lived in the haunted house centuries ago and was responsible for some of the ghosts. She is also not telling him that she has been in love with him for a long time, but he was mourning the loss of his wife and unresponsive. The Grimms work to fight off demons, evil beings and those who seek demon tomes, books of evil lore. Sina suspects that something is possessing the haunted house. She and Luc are at odds for much of the tale, each too caught up in their own pasts to realise that the other needs them.

I am not a fan of horror so someone who does enjoy the genre would get more out of this than I did. What I found most rewarding was the attention to detail that Luc was able to sense without the use of his eyes, such as textures, scents and sounds, enabling him to participate fully even when his dog was not with him. If you have read the series to date, BLIND DESTINY will be a must-read. Or if you just want a multilayered adventure involving wraiths, 'seven bloody sisters' and a misguided documentary film maker, give it a try, but keep a light on....
