Daphne MacLeod and Norris Sutherland have a history. Daphne spent the night with Norris to get out of marrying his good friend, but she certainly didn't expect that one night of passion to lead to anything permanent. Norris is heir to an earldom and well above her station. She goes home in disgrace and takes over running her family's impoverished keep until her brother can return, but Norris is always on her mind.

Norris is learning that one night with Daphne has spoiled him for other women. He decides to visit her lands to see if he can get her out of his system. Instead, he finds himself feeling possessive, protective, and very passionate about her. She's a proud woman, though, so they bicker constantly -- except when they're in bed. The bickering and the bedding only increase when Norris decides to take Daphne back to his family castle to explore their intriguing relationship.

THE TROUBLE WITH HIGHLANDERS is a very steamy romance. Daphne and Norris can't get enough of each other, and author Mary Wine doesn't leave much to the imagination. The eager young couple spends a lot of time exploring ways to pleasure each other.

Wine also captures the brutality of life and leadership in 15th century Scotland. In the beginning, Daphne is just trying to keep her people from starving. One of her biggest obstacles is a rival laird who raids her land, steals her sheep, then kidnaps Daphne herself. When Norris takes Daphne to his home, he warns her not to trust anyone; even his father may take steps to be rid of her, as she has no dowry to support wedding an earl's son. The most dangerous threat comes from a scheming woman who will stop at nothing to arrange her own marriage to Norris.

THE TROUBLE WITH HIGHLANDERS is the sequel to THE HIGHLANDER'S PRIZE, but if you haven't read it, Wine catches you up as needed along the way. The new book is alternately fun and suspenseful, with plenty of hot sex for readers who enjoy men in kilts and the strong women who love them.
