So therefore contracts are dropped off at their house, she enters their homes while they sleep to drop off their supplies, and everything is done by phone or email without any in person interaction. Unfortunately, Iris' plan to stay away from vampires is put to a halt when she meets her newest client Mr. Calix.
Iris stumbles upon Mr. Calix passed out on his kitchen floor during the day. She realizes something isn't right and after almost becoming his next meal, Iris finds out his blood supply has been poisoned and that is why he is lying on the floor very sick.
It is obvious that someone is out to get Mr. Calix. Iris has no choice but to throw all of her rules out the window and agrees to let him hide out at her house for a week. And she will accept a nice little payment of $25,000 for her troubles.
Mr. Calix aka nicknamed Cal by Iris, is investigating who would try to poison him. In the meantime Iris has to make sure Cal stays hidden from the Vampire Council and that is getting harder to do. When Iris becomes their newest target she fears for her life as well as her sister Gigi's who lives with her.
Will Iris and Cal uncover who the bad vampire is and why they want to kill him or will Iris become their next victim?
THE CARE AND FEEDING OF STRAY VAMPIRES is the first book in a new series which is a spin off from the Nice Girl Series. Iris Scanlon was first introduced in the Nice Girls Series as Jane's wedding planner and friend. Although I had heard of Molly Harper's books before, I never had the pleasure of reading any of them until now. But, boy am I happy that I finally did!
I knew this was going to be a hilarious book after reading the first line of the book. ''How did an internal debate regarding flavored sexual aids become part of my workday?'' And that first line did not disappoint, it only got better from there!
THE CARE AND FEEDING OF STRAY VAMPIRES is a paranormal romance with a touch of mystery, suspense and a healthy dose of humor. The story is told in first person point of view which is my favorite POV to read as I enjoy the closer interaction with the main character.
I would recommend Molly Harper's books to fans of Michelle Rowen's Immortality Bites Series. I had to force myself to read this book slower than normal because I did not want it to end. I loved every page and cannot wait to pick up every book in Molly Harper's back list.
Overall, THE CARE AND FEEDING OF STRAY VAMPIRES is an A+ book that I thoroughly loved! Great suspense, romance, humor, everything just meshed together brilliantly to make it a perfect story in my book.
Book Summary
Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands--from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg--gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship--and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.
Cal - who would be devastatingly sexy, if Iris allowed herself to think that way - offers Iris a hefty fee for hiding him at her place until he figures out who wants him permanently dead. Even though he's imperious, unfriendly and doesn't seem to understand the difference between "employee" and "servant," Iris agrees, and finds herself breaking more and more of her own rules to help him - particularly those concerning nudity. Turns out what her quiet little life needed was some intrigue & romance--in the form of her very own stray vampire.
