There's no denying Hal North had an agenda as he transpired to obtain ownership of Cranbrook Park -- revenge -- plain and simple. But revenge is never simple and this attempt was going to be messy. North's personal life had already paid plenty in his narrow envisioned dream to exact payment for the wrongs done to his family. And if truth were told his life was socially full and privately empty as was his soul and heart. But he did an admirable job of convincing himself that this was the way he wanted it.
Does anyone really want to spend their life alone -- even the sweet smell of success and revenge eventually fades away and then what is left is a quiet, solitary void.
Claire Thackeray was unaware that she was going to be a pawn in that revenge. After all she had lived on Cranbrook forever it seemed, her father had worked for Sir Robert Cranbrook, but she never expected to play a role in Hal North's scheme. But in North's mind he needed someone to pay for what Claire's father had done to him and his mother and in his mind if he couldn't get to the father, the daughter would do just fine.
As a single mother just making due the only security she had was the long term lease on Primrose Cottage on the estate. If the news was correct the new owner was planning on developing the land. So it was with dual purpose that Claire was working diligently to get the scoop. First for her job as a journalist in the local publication and second and really more importantly as the holder of a lease due to expire in just four months.
As a young girl Claire had a fascination with Hal watching him from afar. He was a rebel and she was the smart, shy schoolgirl. Neither really fit in with the locals but Hals departure was abrupt and abound with gossip. Claire never wound up leaving. And here they are older, more mature but still with personal issues. But the one thing neither one ever counted on was the undeniable attraction. Would that be enough to soften the beast.
