U.S. Marshall Sam Chance, through the Witness Security (WITSEC) program has under his protection a young woman and her small baby. Grace Baker Randolph was kidnapped at 19 and held hostage by Jose Serrano, Mexican drug lord, until her escape, with him later learning at her testimony against him in court that she was pregnant. She had fled her protector but he finally locating her in Fort Stockton, when they are bombarded with a shower of bullets from the bad guys which leads to a vehicle chase in attempt to escape. Serrano has since escaped from prison and vigilantly searching for his son, Mikey. Dangerously bleeding from a gunshot wound, Sam is forced to call his brother, Travis, in Chance, Texas to find refuge for his charges at the old homestead.

The homecoming is as difficult and trying as Sam was afraid it would be. Will the quite ranch in nowhere Texas bring the safety and security needed to protect the innocent lives? Is more trouble going find them other than the ghosts of Sam's past?

As always, Linda Conrad always captures my attention with her stories. This one is no different than the rest, in that it is full of excitement, hot sex, and true emotion. Such a gifted writer is hard to come by. Her stories are easily followed and extremely entertaining. I could literally sit for hours on end to read her creations.
