Convinced to attend a family birthday party for a friend's relative, Violet feels safe and away from the paparazzi. JD Cameron, a close friend of the family is also invited to attend. As a police detective investigating human trafficking, he zeroes in on Avery as a suspect. Undercover acting as bodyguard for Violet, this is his break to sort out bits of information concerning Avery. Seven women and two girls are dead and his entire goal is bringing justice to fruition. JD is surprised to actually "like" the down to earth actress. Jogging and spending a relaxing time together leads JD to discount any involvement by Violet in his case other than her innocent friendship with Avery. As they grow closer, the sexual tension becomes stronger. Will JD find love while trying to solve the mystery. Will he willingly place his charge in harm's way?
This story is full of hold on to your seat suspense while still portraying the more loving and emotional aspects of two entirely different people as they come together. Money laundering and human trafficking is a nationwide problem that is interestingly addressed in this story. I enjoyed ON HIS HONOR not only a thriller but as a genuine love story. Jean Brashear is a gifted writer for whom I have enjoyed in the past and will hopefully enjoy more of in the future.
Book Summary
Detective JD Cameron is on to something big. He's got evidence of a human-trafficking ring operating here in Austin, Texas. And he's targeted one guy as his way into the ring. But how can JD get close enough without alerting the suspect?
The solution comes with actress Violet James. In town for personal reasons, she needs a bodyguard, and JD is perfect for the job. But this simple assignment quickly changes. An unexpected and powerful connection develops between Violet and JD—one that can't be ignored. Not only is it jeopardizing his objectivity, he's also aware he's not telling her the truth. Confessing all risks his career, but not confessing risks so much more.
