WESTWARD WEIRD is a wonderful collection of tales that will will keep you reading. The only thing many of the stories have in common is the Wild West. This book is great for readers who have a hard time deciding between science fiction, history, and fantasy. All of the authors incorporate the wildly popular steampunk genre into their writing and make the fun and sometime quirky storylines believable. Make no mistake though, some of the characters and scenarios can seem downright odd. The authors do a good job of detailing what the characters look like and how they act for full effect. I was transported into these alternate worlds where the small, good guy may just triumph over the evil one. Of course, this all comes with its share of sacrifices.

It is difficult to describe any of the stories without revealing spoilers along the way. I did not grow as attached to character as I might of in a longer novel, but that isn't, of course, the point of the short stories. I did prefer certain stories over others, but there is certainly something for everyone within WESTWARD WEIRD making it a wonderful read.

Book Summary

From a Western circus where monsters and heroes collide, to a Civil War robot that clanks into battle, to a mining family that encounters parallel universes, Westward Weird features thirteen original stories that open the Old West to new frontiers of science fiction and fantasy.
