Ginesse "Gin" Braxton, the eldest of linguistic prodigy and the most successful locator of tombs in all of Egypt. Gin is much like her mother and longs for adventure as an archaeologist. Gin plans to discover one of Egypt's greatest legends- Zerzura, The White City. She meets a Miss Mildred Whimpelhall on a passenger ship bound to Egypt. Whimpelhall is meeting her fiancé, Colonel Lord Pomfrey who commands an English garrison in Egypt. But Whimpelhall suffers from horrible seasickness and decides at their next stop in port she'll travel by train. Gin comes up with a plan to pretending to be Whimpelhall so she can have the freedom set up her dig, even though she doesn't have the funds or little chance of convincing a team to accompany her.

Gin becomes Miss Whimpelhall by coloring her hair and taking on a different persona. Since Pomfrey is too busy to meet his fiancée', he sends a "ruffian cowboy" by the name of James Owens who owes him a favor. Gin is intrigued by the American, but the moment she meets him, her romantic fantasies are crushed. James is rude and boorish and isn't happy about escorting her to Pomfrey, who he can't stand. Most of his acquaintances in Egypt have no clue who the real James is and he wants to keep it that way.

Disaster seems to follow Gin wherever she goes, by no fault of her own. James barely makes it with his neck intact as they're shot at and Gin is kidnapped and almost forced in sexual slavery. And when James saves her, things go from bad to worse. They can't deny their attraction for one another and one thing leads to another and James is asking Gin for her hand in marriage because he's ruined her. He still has no idea who Gin really is, nor does she know who James is either, and soon enough their lies come crashing down on their heads.

If you enjoyed As You Desire, you will definitely feel the same about THE OTHER GUY'S BRIDE. Gin is quite the firecracker and has so many incredible qualities to admire. She drives James crazy and it was a real hoot to see her get under his skin. James is rugged and standoffish, but also droll and witty.

THE OTHER GUY'S BRIDE is a fun time fluffy novel. Fans of Connie won't be disappointed.
