Darrak remains just as funny, handsome, and charismatic as ever in this novel. Eden is slightly impulsive, random, and caring when it comes to Darrak, even when he frustrates her. Darrak proves that he truly loves Eden by asking her to seek outside help that could harm him. The secondary characters round out the book, they add emphasis to Eden and Darrak's relationship and keep the plot moving. The events themselves are fairly fast-paced, the scenes where Eden's magic begins to waver and spike and exciting and very fast-paced.
Fans of the series should run to get THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC. The ending is satisfying and slightly predictable, but the events leading up to the ending contain many twists and surprises that will keep readers on their toes. Overall, as the finale of the series, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC, closes this world beautifully.
