Court spies what are known as "Black Suits" spread out in the crowd and realizes that Elena and her family are in grave danger. Bullets start to fly and several family members, as well as other innocents, are killed as the Black Suits, loyal to Daniel de la Rocha, try to get to Elena as revenge against Eddie's attack on de la Rocha. Court flies into action and kills many of them, but unfortunately his brave actions are recorded by a television station who were filming the public memorial. Court takes reluctant control of the situation and leads the remaining Gamboa family to safety. In Mexico, Court learns, no one can be trusted, from police to family friends. Hiding out at a family compound in the country, the chances of survival are slim for the small group of elderly and women against many armed military, police, and misguided farmers who have been promised money once Elena has been captured and the others are killed.
