Did you ever have the urge to reach into a book and shake two characters that are just too frightened and stubborn to admit they are totally in love with each other? Sure they have amazing chemistry -- you can practically see the sparks igniting when they touch but to Clay Worth and Trish that's just lust. Both freely admit there was nothing wrong or missing in their sex life while they were married but somehow those sparks couldn't keep the fire alive and support a marriage. Lack of trust and failure to fully commit to a marriage is what pushed them apart. Now they once again have to face each other and finally put this marriage to rest. But it's funny how those around Clay and Trish seem to feel they are still in love.

Marriage is compromise and at first you think the failure of theirs is reluctance to give even an inch. But that was just subterfuge for more deep seated issues and unless those are dealt with then this marriage is doomed to fail. How ironic one of Trish's biggest concerns is failing. She looks at her life as never really being loved by her parents, being in the background or outside and as a newcomer to her husband's ranch and town she once again sees herself outside looking in. Clay is surrounded by brothers and their families who have defied their own odds and wound up in wonderful marriages and yet he just can't figure out what went wrong with his to Trish. They were great together. Sure he was hoping to start a family when Trish was clearly reluctant to her career on hold. What she wouldn't admit to Clay or even herself was her fear that she couldn't be a good mother. She wasn't willing to take the chance of still another person not loving her. When fate stepped in and Trish became guardian of a baby she found herself in just the position she had so vehemently fought against with Clay. So now she was back in town with her charge to finally get the divorce situation with Clay finalized. But was that really what either of them wanted? And the biggest question is, would they ever just take a step back and realize what a wonderful family they all would make?

Once again, I say this is one couple badly in need of intervention. Their failure to recognize where they futures should be could be their biggest ever. Sands had me practically swearing at this couple to open their eyes and see what was right in front of them. Then I realized how intuitive she was. This is sadly the story behind so many marriages that don't make it. But she works her magic with her most challenging couple to date.

Book Summary

Unfinished Business

He’d been ready to move on, to marry a woman who’d provide him with heirs. But a year of separation hasn’t slaked rancher Clayton Worth’s raging desire for his soon-to-be-ex-wife. And Trish is as unpredictable as ever. Her mysterious reluctance to have kids was what drove them apart. Now Trish is back in Red Ridge, mother to a baby girl. The irony is maddening.

Trish urgently needs to finalize their divorce before Clayton’s irresistible charm can melt her resolve. Because his touch awakens a consuming hunger than hasn’t died. They’d thought it was all over between them…but their hearts have other ideas.
