The book purports to break through the invisible barriers (put in place by some vague societal agency) we didn't even realize were there and offer freedom to self-define what a healthy sexuality means for each of us, as individuals, without necessarily referencing a "norm."
"...there is no standard of normality to which you, or anyone else, ought to adhere to."
A brief sampling of the first few chapters includes:
Chapter 1: Sexual Play
Communication, Laughter and acceptance of diversity
Chapter 2: What Works, What Doesn't and Why
An extremely detailed anatomy lesson
-What some like, some don't. More exploration of the
varieties of sensation.
Chapter 3: The Physical Experience of Orgasm.
Freud and why he was full of hooey. And that Masters and
Johnson still had something to learn.
Variety among women, and regarding the same woman.
Chapter 4: The Energetic Experience of Orgasm
-The non-physical components of orgasm.
THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ORGASM FOR WOMEN is an extremely detailed exploration of its topic, chock full of info and yet reads as somewhat dated in attitude. Despite its rewrite it still carries an ephemeral banner of "womanhood" more often waved more than a decade ago when the first incarnation was published. Is this a bad thing? No, not really but it does mean those impatient with the issues that were new and raw in 1998 have the shadows of reactionary prose overlaying a great deal solid and useful information. Is it worth buying? Absolutely.
Book Summary
Owning our desires should be neither embarrassing nor uncomfortable. Nor should they be subject to anyone else's moral judgment of what is right or wrong, good or bad, normal or abnormal. Combining communication and information is the key. By shrugging off the taboos against talking about our preferences and experiences when we're being sexual, we will take the first and most important steps toward ensuring our own fulfillment.
The Ultimate Guide to Orgasm for Women is an unflinchingly honest, responsible, and thoroughly comprehensive exploration of female sexuality. Topics include: The physical types of orgasm, such as electrical, flying, pounding, deep, waves, and blips; orgasm as an emotional release; the "elusive orgasm" and why some women have difficulty having one; how often we fake them and why; masturbation; multiple orgasms; the male-female dichotomy; penetration and the G-spot; defining the erotic; and the joy of sex toys.
