Calla Tor's life has made a 180 degrees juxtaposition. Her enemies are now her friends---sort of---and she has to rescue her Pack from those she always thought were her friends---sort of. She finds herself at the mercy of the Searchers, as they provide the opportunity to save those she loves. One problem, as well as having to deal with having her entire reality re-aligned and work with people who trust her just about as far as she trusts them, is that Calla loves more than one person. Her jealousy about Shay, also in the seemingly-loving care of the Searchers, as well as her worry -and more- about Ren, have her uncertain how to act and react; however, she plans to use her dominant rank in the pack to her advantage while jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Cremer does a fantastic job demonstrating what a young woman/wolf must do to save her people when her world is spiraling out of control; however, one should read the first book in the series to understand the character development in WOLFSBANE, or the extreme nature of Calla's situation might be lost.
