Yet, will all his skills and keen insights be enough? British and American intelligence are aware that a massive terrorist attack is being planned by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, yet under the debris of too much information, it has left them short on resources from following distracting clues, so they had only the barest of wisps of leads. Can Will help them identify the mastermind that would bring this destruction, potentially killing thousands of people, before it happens?
With limited resources available, Will is only given a small group to help him find and neutralize this unknown, but deadly, nemesis. Will soon finds they are among the finest and most highly trained operatives, but will they be enough to stop the ruthless and relentless Iranians? With time running out, what "bait" will be enough to entice and draw out the deadly beast?
In real life, author Mathew Dunn is a former M16 field officer with over 70 missions to his credit and all were successful. With SPYCATCHER, his debut novel, he is well on his way to being a must read author in the thriller market!
Before reading it, I had high expectations that this book would be a riveting ride with realistic and authentic action and my expectations were met and exceeded. I even had to stop reading for a bit to get my heart to stop racing and then I quickly picked the book up again to find out what happens next. Dunn's plot development is strong and I loved both the character of Will Cochrane as well as how Dunn allows the reader to learn more about Will as the story develops. Dunn is also very effective in making the secondary characters real; however, he is a little weaker in really getting Lana's motivations out so her character doesn't quite reach the level of complexity or interest that he achieves so well with Will as the hero. Will's training allows him to control his physical and emotional shocks, yet, his early life still leaves him with a compassionate heart. I do hope there is lots more of Will Cochrane in the near future and definitely more books from Dunn! I would not be surprised if film rights are being negotiated. This is one terrific read that any suspense and thriller fan will not want to miss!
Book Summary
Matthew Dunn spent years as an MI6 field operative working on some of the West’s most clandestine missions. He recruited and ran agents, planned and participated in special operations, and operated deep undercover throughout the world. In Spycatcher he draws on this fascinating experience to breathe urgent, dynamic new life into the contemporary spy novel.
Featuring deft and daring superspy Will Cochrane, Dunn paints a nerve-jangling, bracingly authentic picture of today’s secret world. It is a place where trust is precious and betrayal is cheap—and where violent death is the reward for being outplayed by your enemy.
Will Cochrane, the CIA’s and MI6’s most prized asset and deadliest weapon, has known little outside this world since childhood. And he’s never been outplayed. So far…
Will’s controllers task him with finding and neutralizing one of today’s most wanted terrorist masterminds, a man believed to be an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general. Intending to use someone from the man’s past to flush him out of the shadows, Will believes he has the perfect plan, but he soon discovers, in a frantic chase from the capitals of Europe to New York City, that his adversary has more surprises in store and is much more treacherous than anyone he has ever faced—and survived—up to now.
