Special Agent Meghan Connors has always dreamt of being assigned to protect the President. And the opportunity to do so is within reach. But before she can think about that, the Vice President has personally requested her for a special assignment. Lindsay is in need of protection while she works on her recovery on a ranch in Texas, as some people have been directly threatening her safety. Meghan will be working under Special Agent in Charge Ash Zinders, who has a reputation for being critical, tough, and biased against female agents.

While on the ranch, not only must Meghan concentrate on protecting Lindsey's safety, helping the rehab efforts, and changing Ash's mind about her abilities, but shortly after arriving strange things start happening that make the team (there are four other agents besides Meghan and Ash) wonder if the person(s) involved in the security threats are either at the ranch or being fed information from inside. If there is a leak, is it an agent, or one of the long-time ranch workers?

This was an exciting book that grabbed my attention immediately. Not only was it an exciting mystery, but it also gave an intriguing look into the life of a Secret Service agent. Meghan's character was well-written. She's a strong, smart character who is multi-dimensional, and the chemistry between her and Ash is fun to read. She also has a great relationship with Lindsey, and when the reason for the Vice President's personal request is made clear, it makes Meghan an even more likable character.

The mystery itself was intriguing and taut. It kept me guessing until the very end. And when the agents went into action, the writing was such that it I literally flipped the pages faster, not able to read quickly enough. I also enjoyed the theme of redemption that ran throughout the book. It's a theme that most can identify with, and it was most fitting for this plot. Altogether, this book was highly enjoyable for the characters, the mystery, and the romance that was woven within.
