Ian was thrown into an asylum by his father after he witnessed a horrible deed. He was saved by his older brother and now the Duke, Hart, after many years of torture and experimentation. What would be considered genius by some was often ostracized and caged in days past. I felt that Ms. Ashley did a remarkable job of letting us know what happened to Ian, without going into the gruesome details. Remarkably this man has retained himself and survived to live and love outside of the four walls he grew up in. Fighting for people who are being used and abused is Ian's specialty. Fighting for a damsel in distress was supposed to be another walk in the park, but when said damsel starts fighting for him Ian is overwhelmed with new feelings he has never felt before.
The widowed Beth Ackerley has never had an easy life. Growing up as the daughter of a fraud, Beth has learned that trust should not be given away too easily. But there is just something about Ian that leaves Beth willing to believe what he is saying about her fiancé, Sir Mather. There is also something about Ian that leaves her breathless and wanting more, can a man as stoic as this one is be just as passionate too? Running from one engagement to another, Beth knows that her reputation is far from perfect. Being engaged to Lord Ian is not going to help her at all, but protecting him from himself and those around him has become everything to Beth.
The two characters are full of personal flaws. Watching them learn about each other as they learn about themselves was the perfect combination. THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE gave me a mysterious murder, mayhem, a highly dysfunctional family, and romance on every page. Ms. Ashley managed to create a family that I want to know more of, I have to read the rest of the series! There is no other option at this point. The book presented the other Mackenzie brothers, but I have to know what happens to them too! I cannot say enough about this stunning book, I simply loved it! THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE was amazing starting with the storyline, the characters, the plots, and ending with an unforgettable romance! It was all wrapped up nicely in one little book! I am already starting on the next of this enchanting series!
Book Summary
It was whispered all through London Society that he was a murderer, that he’d spent his youth in an asylum and was not to be trusted—especially with a lady. Any woman caught in his presence was immediately ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy. Despite his decadence and intimidating intelligence, she could see he needed help. Her help. Because suddenly the only thing that made sense to her was...THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE
