BLOODHUNT is the fifth installment in Shannon K. Butcher's Sentinel Wars series. Hope doesn't remember anything about her past prior to waking up naked on the street ten years ago and doesn't understand why she can see people's auras. One evening while searching an abandoned building, she comes across a gorgeous man fighting a demon. Although he manages to kill the beast, he is on the brink of death. Hope saves him by giving him her blood and unknowingly becomes involved in a war between the Sanguinar, the Theronai, and the Synestryn.

As soon as Logan tastes Hope's unusually strong blood he knows he must find her a mate with similar blood so that they can mate and help keep his people from starving. She agrees to let him introduce her to other men if he will help her find the people who have gone missing from the homeless shelter where she works. However, as the two work together they find themselves fighting a growing attraction. If they give in to their desire it may end the fragile truce between the Sanguinar and Theronai, but the more time they spend together the harder it is to resist temptation.

Butcher's Sentinel Wars series presents a complex world of political distrust and fighting within an alien race. Two of the factions, the Sanguinar and the Theronai, need to work together if they hope to defeat the Synestryn. The Synestryn are demons that want to take over the earth and its inhabitants. Because BLOODHUNT is the fifth book in the series readers who haven't read from the beginning may be a little confused at first about the cultures of the factions and how they interact with each other. Butcher does a good job of highlighting the important relationships, but starting with the first book will give you a more intimate knowledge of the Sentinel world. There also are several subplots around characters that were introduced in previous books, but these side stories are easy to follow along with and keep the book fast-paced and interesting.

The politics and fighting in the book are nicely balanced by the connection between Hope and Logan. There is a sexual tension between the two from the start that only builds as the story progresses. I particularly like the fact that Logan is the one who resists the relationship the longest, as opposed to many romances where it is the woman who is uncertain. Once the two finally give in to their attraction the sex scenes are hot enough for even the most diehard romance fan. Fans of darker paranormal romance and urban fantasy are sure to love BLOODHUNT for its intriguing plot, non-stop action, and steamy sex scenes.

Book Summary
