As a member of the Alliance, Alfonso did the unthinkable for his people; he swore a blood oath with an assassin to never betray the Alliance and the Lord that ruled over them. Now, finding a new faction of the Alliance in his home territory has led Alfonso to open up doors that he thought long locked, sealed, and stashed away. The plot of the Alliance is to find a tracker from within the Agency to track down sweetbloods, drain them, and sell their irresistible blood to recruit new members. The best tracker in the Agency just happens to be their target and the love of Alfonso's previous life. How can he protect her without picking things up where they left off? How can he save her from himself and the danger that lies just around the corner waiting to snuff out his life and the lives of those he loves?

Alfonso's rejection was one of the hardest and most devastating moments of Lily's life. Losing her senses for tracking is coming in at a close second. For Lily, not being able to track for the Agency would be a fate worse than death. But that is exactly what is happening. Lily is losing her scents, her targets, her partners, and her mind. The only way Lily has ever been a worthy vampire has been through her tracking skills. Quickly excelling at tracking, Lily was able to prove to the world that she was not just another pretty face. Now gloom looms over her, and what is worse is that the one man who broke her heart has reentered her life. In fact, he has had the audacity to partner with her so that they can track down a new enemy. Can she keep her head in the game with her heart on her sleeve?

There were good parts to this story and bad. First, I really liked Lily as a heroine. She was strong, self- assured while still having the same doubts that every woman has, and she made the same mistakes that many women have in love, life, and happiness. I thought that she was a well written character, but I also had issues with her issues. Her whole back story was that her powers were fading and this was a big problem for her. Then her abilities started working again and nothing was ever addressed as to why they stopped in the first place, or why they had suddenly returned. Alfonso on the other hand, was set up well. I felt that his problems were worked out, his family issues addressed, and he even got a pleasant surprise in the end. The only other thing I had an issue with was Alfonso's tracker from the Alliance. As a bad guy, I felt that he really wasn't as scary as I wanted him to be. The big fight was anti-climactic; I wanted more fight, more action, and more evil as he was talked up to be.
