The Evening Gazette was London's leading source of gossip when it came to any scandal involving the nobility. The Gazette's mysterious writer, Lord X, never missed an opportunity to exploit the private lives of the aristocracy. But when Lord X writes a scandalous article about Ian Lennard Viscount St. Clair keeping a mistress and child, the mystery writer has finally crossed the line. The Viscount was already the subject of much speculation among London circles. Why did Ian Lennard disappear from England for years after his nineteenth birthday? And now that he is back, why is he too intent on quickly finding a wife?

Ian can hardly believe the venomous article accusing him of keeping a mistress and child when he is so close to finally marrying. The Viscount cleverly sets a trap to lead him straight to the odious Lord X who had become the bane of his existence. But when Ian finally believes he has his man, Lord X turns out to be Felicity Taylor, a fiery beauty who is not at all fazed that her real identity has been discovered. Ian threatens to expose Felicity's real identity to all of London, but Felicity responds by threatening to follow Ian's every move and publish it for all of London to read. When Felicity's article about Ian's mistress and child spreads like wildfire, Ian's fiancée elopes with another man. Ian holds Felicity responsible and orders her to marry him and give him an heir in order to make up for the marriage her article cost him.

Felicity cannot contemplate why a wealthy Viscount would want to marry a penniless writer with four brothers to support. But Ian will not take no for answer. In order to sweeten the deal, Ian promises to pay off her debts and care for her brothers. Being Viscountess St. Clair will also provide her ample opportunities to attend balls and gather gossip for her column. However, in order to accept his proposal, Felicity demands to know the real identity of the woman and child Ian provides for. When Ian refuses to speak about his past, Felicity rejects his proposal, but Ian refuses to give Felicity up, even if he has to resort to unthinkable measures. Although Ian and Felicity's engagement soon begins to feel like more than a business arrangement, Ian fears he will lose Felicity forever once she learns about his dark past and why he really left England.

THE DANGEROUS LORD is written the way every historical romance should be written -- plenty of angst and passion, but still held together by a believable plot. Ian remains an enigma throughout most of the novel, but that only makes the novel more addictive! Sabrina Jeffries knows how to keep her readers hooked! As Felicity begins to uncover just who Ian Lennard really is, readers will be eager to finally know the real identity of the woman Felicity believed to be Ian's mistress and how she is linked to the reason he left England years ago. Two thumbs up for THE DANGEROUS LORD!
