On her first mission, Lara's instincts draw her to Justin. Sure enough, demons follow close behind but it isn't until it is too late to hide their nature that she realizes Justin is not a child of air, but some other form of being.
Justin is a drifter tied to the sea. He remembers very little before being rescued from the middle of the ocean, but he has managed to make his way and keep his head down while he waits for his memory to return, if it ever does. When he meets Lara he is more than willing to follow her lead and accept the night of passion she seems to be offering. But when the flaming bad guys show up, he realizes there are secrets below the kindness and spark of interest in her eyes.
When Justin is injured by the demons Lara makes the decision to bring him back to Rockhaven, though inviting a stranger into the sanctuary is against the Rules that keep them safe. Still, she cannot live with herself should he be harmed as a result of his actions while fighting demons at her side.
In book five of The Children of the Sea series, Kanton has shown us a glimpse into the world of the air elementals as the children of fire grow in strength and viciousness. Despite the overriding fantasy elements of her books, the strength of them lies in Kantra's ability to create complex and memorable characters who fall in love against bigger odds than in more mainstream romances. As expected, FORGOTTEN SEA is like its predecessors, a lovely book to escape into and perfect for a lazy summer weekend at the beach.
