Baron Justin Wilde fought a duel in which he killed a man. It was in self-defense since his opponent fired on the count of two but it necessitates his departure from England. He spends the next eight years acting as royal assassin for the English government. With the deposit of a large sum into Prinny's pocket and certain promises made, Justin is given permission to return home

Imagine his surprise when he is informed he will be required to marry the Lady Alina. The lady is coming to England to protect her from a plot in her homeland which places her in danger. Lady Alina is a innocent young woman who has no idea what she will face as she leaves her home. She immediately refuses to marry the Baron. The two are at odds but circumstances force them to marry.

Filled with Ms. Michael's trademark humor and quirky characters, this was an enjoyable read. Justin hides his feelings behind a bored, sarcastic manner. Lady Alina's naivete is entertaining. Her acceptance of Justin's unusual servants leads to some amusing scenes. While it is not a complex mystery, the story is enough to keep the reader interested.

Book Summary

He is but a pawn in someone else's game. With no choice but to do the prince regent's bidding, Justin Wilde must marry—marry!—a woman not of his own choosing. And for the man notoriously referred to as the Bad Baron, marriage is the last thing he wishes to consider. Especially when the bride has the beauty of an angel but the devil's own temper….

Stunned to find herself married to a stranger, Alina vows to uncover the reason behind their forced union. Yet the more time she spends with her roguish husband, the less the past seems to matter. But when the truth behind their wedding at last emerges, will it strengthen their fragile bond—or shatter their lives forever?
