Zack Keathley feels indebted to Naomi for helping his sister, sure, but he's also immediately attracted to her. Even while he fends off threats to his business, he can't help but make time to show Naomi just how grateful he is.
Michelle Monkou's THE MILLIONAIRE'S ULTIMATE CATCH starts off with a bang, what with the attack on Zack's sister and Naomi's rush to help her. I had a bit of a time believing Naomi was so injured she couldn't return to her Chicago home to recuperate since she didn't have any broken bones or other severe injuries. But of course, it was necessary for her to stay put in order for her and Zack to get together. Putting that one point of contention aside, I enjoyed the romance between Naomi and Zack.
Women's sports stars are a group underrepresented in romance novels. Monkou does a good job of scratching the surface of that world and crafting a believable hero for a woman who is both above average in height and athletically strong. I was glad to see her allow Naomi to show her softer side and to center their conflict around something other than their careers. As the romance reached the point of seeming doom, Monkou did an excellent job of leading the reader in one direction then revealing a plot twist that fit perfectly with the missed clues. I also loved that Monkou took the romance to Haiti, an island rich in culture and beauty, even as it struggles with the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake.
THE MILLIONAIRE'S ULTIMATE CATCH is a breezy, entertaining read.
