After the death of their friend Henrik, Cotton and Cassie have grown closer. No longer just friends and partners in espionage, they are feeling their way to a more fulfilling relationship. Cotton will do what he must to save her life, as she has saved his in the past.

Cotton keeps the meeting, handing off an envelope with nothing of value in it. He then follows the woman to a meeting with another Chinese man, only to see them killed.
