"Being a Teen Vampire is Definitely Cool, Even if Assassins Make Life a Little Chancy"

Being a teen vampire has definite elements of cool, but any advantages are vastly outweighed by being on the hit list for an ancient vampire brotherhood who believes young vampires should be assassinated before they can make more of their kind.

Zack has managed to evade their hit men with the help of his mentor Ophelia, but it means he and Charlie have had to leave their girlfriends, Luna and Suki, with their family for their own safety. His buddy Charlie manages to get them out of the house once in a while for raves or just to burn off energy running through the night, but things change when an unknown and unconquerable beast begins to hunt any vampire it can sniff out. The elements of an ancient prophecy begin to occur, leading up to what may be the End of Days. The vampire assassins may be after Zack for an entirely new reason when it begins to look as if he is the chosen one, fated in the prophecy to save or destroy their race.

Book 2 in the Night Runner series picks up where Night Runner leaves off, with Zack and Charlie whisked away from Luna and Suki into a safe house with Ophelia. When the mysterious Mr. Entwhistle (who helped Zack break out of the mental institution) appears, Ophelia's reaction makes it clear he is not all he appears to be. He may not be on their side at all, despite the risks he takes to hunt down the beast. Although it is not the very best I have read in the genre, Turner has a good grasp of teen dialogue and an interesting premise. END OF DAYS is a solid addition to the budding series, and brings up enough intriguing questions to make me eager to read book 3.

Book Summary

Zachariah Thomson has spent the past year getting used to the idea that his best friend, Charlie, and the lovely Luna are now vampires, like him. As they learn to cope with the changes this brings, a mysterious creature appears.

Likened to the Beast of the Apocalypse, it begins to dismantle the network of support around Zack, who discovers he is more than just an orphaned vampire – he is the subject of an ancient prophecy that relates to the End of Days. As friends and enemies, old and new, throw his world into chaos, he is forced to re-examine what it means to be good at a time when it seems that only the strong and ruthless can survive.
