The Honorable Nash Renfrew, ambassador to Russia, has returned home to England to take possession of an inheritance. Nash longs to return to Russia and away from his aged aunt who wants him to get married. Nash has no interest in marriage, but humors the old woman, and then heads off to check his newly appropriated property.

Maddy Woodford is struggling to make ends meet as she tries to raise her five younger half-siblings after the death of her father. One day, while Maddy watches a gentleman riding over a hill, she looks on in shock as he tries to make a jump over a wall and is thrown from his horse. Maddy rushes to his aid and decides to take the man home. She puts him in her bed and will nurse him back to health regardless of the threat to her reputation.

Soon the gentleman awakens under Maddy's tender care, but he can't remember who he is. He has fleeting memories, one being of Maddy asleep beside him in bed; a fact she neither admits or denies. This strange, yet appealing man doesn't seem to mind staying in her bed and soon he's become a playmate for her sisters and brothers.

When Nash gets his memory back, but doesn't announce his recovery. He wants to stay on and help Maddy, who is being stalked by a devious individual who arrives late at night and purposely scares her and the children. This fiend goes as far as to destroy her crops and livestock so she and her family will have to leave. And if that wasn't bad enough, Maddy has no support, especially from those righteous thinking members of the town who feel she's living in sin win Nash. With no other choice at his disposal, Nash decides on a course of action that will save Maddy and her wards, as well as give his opinionated aunt what she wants most of all.

THE ACCIDENTAL WEDDING is a cute regency historical romance about a disillusioned lord who becomes the knight in shining armor for a young woman running out of hope. Nash is very appealing and at times does come across as the too-good-to-be true savior, mainly due to his title and the fortune at his disposal. Maddy's motivation is somewhat harder to understand given that she worries about her reputation yet continues to come up with implausible reasons for him to stay. I also thought that the subplot related to the lurker that's causing Maddy problems lacked development and resolution.

What I thought would be another cute and sweet romance by Anne Gracie was less than ideal reading for me, but for those who can put aside some of these problems and are fans of Ms. Gracie's past work, they may want to give THE ACCIDENTAL WEDDING a chance.

Book Summary

Nash Renfrew wakes up in the home of Maddy Woodford after he's had an accident and cannot remember what happened. But soon enough his memory returns and Nash realizes he doesn't want to leave Maddy and the only way to stay is to pretend to still have amnesia.

Their love affair is complicated as he is a diplomat and Maddy is just a country girl in charge of five orphaned half-siblings. But their love is also igniting a danger neither of them realize and a threat to a new-found love neither Maddy nor Nash can live without.
