She's surprised and confused when she wakes up, shackled to a metal table in a university lab. And the shocks don't stop there. She finds out that she's an abomination, neither fully human nor vampire, and her "master" will hunt her down to kill her or turn her completely. So, Celia plans to hunt him, but it won't be easy. Another of the bodyguards died during the attack, and the police suspect Celia as the murderer, and then there's the demon she glimpsed during a perimeter check of the prince's apartment. She enlists help from a trustworthy cop; her ex and (future) Lover, a powerful mage; a werewolf who hides his nature from the world; and an elderly clairvoyant. But Celia only has a few days to save the world and herself.
Cat Adams has written an action-packed urban fantasy that will thrill readers. In addition to a great story, the authors give readers Celia Graves, a tough woman who is forced to adapt to an extremely difficult situation and learns much about herself in the process. Few novels of this ilk have protagonists with as much depth as Celia possesses, and it's a pleasure to see. She has a past that includes abuse of which we don't learn much, but perhaps enlightenment will come in future books. Celia also knows her strength and admits her weaknesses, a refreshing change from many of the perfect kick-ass heroines of some books.
On top of that the plot is complex with twists and turns that will surprise, a believable Los Angeles albeit with a variety of supernatural creatures, gadgets and spells; and some wonderful characters who hopefully will make appearances in future novels. Be warned though that Adams leaves readers on the edge of a cliff, eagerly waiting for the release of Siren Song, the second installment in the series. BLOOD SONG combines a unique story, terrific characters and enough action for any fantasy fan.
Book Summary
Bodyguard Celia Graves has definitely accepted her share of weird assignments, both human and supernatural. But her newest job takes the cake. Guarding a Prince from terrorists and religious fundamentalists is hard enough, but it seems like the entire supernatural world is after this guy too. When she is betrayed by those she is employed to help, and everything goes horribly wrong, Celia wakes to find herself transformed.
Neither human nor vampire, Celia has become an Abomination— something that should not exist—and now both human and supernatural alike want her dead. With the help of a few loyal friends—a sexy mage, a powerful werewolf, and a psychic cop—Celia does her best to stay alive. On the run from her enemies, Celia must try to discover who is behind her transformation…before it’s too late.
