A trippy combination of Men In Black and romance, TOUCHED BY AN ALIEN is light-hearted yet packed with action. When a domestic dispute turns ugly (with bat-like wings and deadly projectiles) mild-mannered marketer Katherine "Kitty" Kat discovers she has the stones to stab the husband-turned- winged monster in the back with her favorite pen. Far-too-handsome men in Armani whisk her away to a secret hideout near Roswell and begin a bumpy ride that shifts her view of the world forever. Turns out her consultant mother was trained by the Mossad and is the head of an anti- terrorism unit, and her mild-mannered professor dad has skills with codes that make him quite valuable. Aliens have been on Earth for decades, and there really are monsters, although they'd rather hide in the next door neighbor than under the bed.

While trying to save the world in her own inimitable fashion (Hairspray; extra hold, please) Kitty falls in love with a persistent Jeff Martini, taking on a foe from the aliens' past that even they, with all their super powers have not been able to touch.

The Alpha Centaurians (A. C.'s, for short) have a strictly regimented division of labor. The males go out and battle, the females stay home and discover brilliant things in the labs. Some of them have psychic gifts, all of them can speak and move faster than a human eye can see, and they are under siege from big nasty symbiotes who can infect humans and morph into bug-eyed monsters with evil in mind.

TOUCHED BY AN ALIEN keeps sure footing between science fiction farce and superheated love story. The sexy love scenes kept me riveted, the action scenes had me on the edge of my seat torn between tension and laughter. Fully realized secondary characters lift this book above some of the other futuristic romances I have read, and mean I will keep an eagle eye out for Gini Koch's next book.
