Wyatt McCord is enjoying his return to the family ranch after many years on the road. And like his two cousins Zane and Jesse is becoming rather zealous over continuing their grandfathers search for gold lost for generations on their land. The townspeople think it is more like a curse but the boys along with their aunt want nothing more than to prove their grandfather right and clear the air about his being gold crazy. The difficulty in continuing the search is that Grandpa Coot as a habit doodled his search notes on papers and then inadvertently lost them along the way. But the boys are beginning to think that belief rather simplistic as pages of Coot's notes are popping up in odd places in the possession of random people. But it begs the question why these people had his notes and didn't give them to the family.

When Wyatt sets his mind to something it's near impossible to change it and since his return he has had his eye on the local medic, Marilee Trainor with no luck getting her attention. But he feels his luck is going to change and to give it a little nudge in the right direction he figures she will surely notice him in the bull riding competition -- and as an added touch -- tosses himself over the rail at her feet. Well he gets noticed. Now he is determined to get better acquainted with Ms. Trainor. They share a common desire both looking to set down roots in one place and Gold Fever seems to suit them both just fine. Although Lee can't deny the attraction between them she questions his family's dedication to finding the gold. Along with most townspeople she just doesn't believe it's there. But while on a medical emergency she happens upon old, yellowed pages that look like maps and suddenly she is convinced -- the McCord's may be on to something.

As Lee and Wyatt's relationship grows it apparently is attracting somebody's attention. There are several unexplained accidents that put their lives in jeopardy. Wyatt's growing concern over Lee's safety has him questioning his resolve to finding that gold. The McCord's are all beginning to wonder if the search is cursed. Perhaps salving Coot's pride just isn't in the cards. Some gambles are too risky to take.

This is Ryan's second installment on the McCord family, the third one due soon. Not to worry each one stands well on its own but it is fun to follow along on their search. If you haven't read Montana Legacy yet you might want to get a copy and get acquainted with an interesting family and their neighbors. Sure to entertain. Enjoy.

Book Summary

Wyatt McCord has spent his adult life looking for a place to call home. His parents craved adventure so they took him from his family's Montana ranch--the only place he's ever called home--to show him the world, one exotic country after another. Now, years after their deaths, he's returned to the Montana ranch he loves, and joined his cousins to fulfill their grandfather's legacy and search for the hidden treasure on their family land. But man cannot live by legacy alone...

Wyatt has never had any trouble with the ladies. In fact, his easy charm and irresistible smile have always gotten him any and every woman he's ever wanted with no commitments. But Marliee Trainor, the gorgeous redhead medic, captured his eye from the moment he wandered into town and it's the first time he's ever wanted to give a woman his heart. So when Marliee joins the McCords in their search for the family treasure, Wyatt is thrilled...until a series of "accidents" reveal that a killer is out to get her. Determined to keep her safe, Wyatt will risk everything to protect her and bring the killer to justice.
