Tate Justice, an aspiring romance writer, received an inheritance from her uncle that includes a monster Victorian home complete with extra rooms and a tea shop. What she really needs to get her above water is some extra income. Renting the apartment above the garage is perfect, but she has not received one response to her ad -- until the arrival of a stranger. Now she must make a decision to either wait for a better offer or allow the limping, angry, dangerous-looking man to have the space. Her curiosity wins out, especially when she witnesses him being a complete sweetheart to the elderly women in town, while being a complete bear to her. Definitely a puzzle to figure out and she has nothing but time.
This new installment to the Paladin series is my favorite yet. Dark and brooding with quick wit and a sizzling attraction that is irresistible. A fun read!
Book Summary
After a vicious attack by a group of rogue Others, Paladin Hunter Fitzsimon is no longer physically the warrior he once was. The constant call of a barrier he can longer defend leaves him feeling cutoff and adrift. So, when Hunter is offered a transfer to the Pacific Northwest to protect a portion of the barrier in the small town of Justice Point, he takes it.Tate Justice needs a tenant for the apartment above her garage. But when Hunter shows up, cash in hand, something about him makes Tate uneasy--and it's more than his sexy grin. She can see something broken about him though, and wants to help him mend in peace. Something Hunter's pride resents--at least at first. But just as he starts to let his guard down, he finds a break in the barrier where someone crossed from Kalithia. When he doesn't return to the house in the evening, Tate sets out to find him. When she stumbles across his lifeless body, she realizes just how much he means to her. And as the Others and the Paladins fight to catch the Kalithia traitors, Hunter begins to realize he'd do anything to keep her too.
