After having served on a jury that found the defendant "not guilty" (if you've served on a jury, you know the term "innocent" is not used in a court of law), Wollie is approached by said defendant and offered a job with his media-training company. He's had his eye on Wollie throughout the trial and is certain she's perfect for the position of "social coach" with MediaRex. The money Wollie is offered for just three month's work will go a long way in caring for her special brother.
Still, Wollie is all set to refuse when an FBI agent strongly convinces her to go undercover at MediaRex, which is suspected of nefarious dealings. The agent threatens to remove Wollie's brother from the federally subsidized halfway house he's come to love.
With much trepidation, Wollie takes on the social training of three foreign celebrities, who are still learning English, as they try to cope with American customs. As Wollie learns more about the mysterious death of her predecessor, she becomes uncomfortable, especially since she's wearing the girl's clothes and staying in her room. When the girl's boyfriend is found brutally murdered on the grounds of the MediaRex compound, things go from bad to worse for Wollie. She just isn't cut out for this kind of secretive work, but she can't quit. It doesn't help that her current lover, Simon, is dealing with his own undercover FBI mission and can't be there when she needs him. Hey, she'll handle things the best way she knows how -- and to heck with the rest.
This fourth book featuring the likable, but hapless Wollie Shelley is even better than the previous novels. She's so easy to relate to as she courageously confronts daily problems and figures out ways to cope with whatever life throws her way. This mystery series is delightfully fun, clever, suspenseful and a pure joy to read.
