While I have been known to read the very (and I do mean very) rare historical, I've not previously read Ms. Hawkins. Therefore when I sat down to read this book I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was very pleased to find a sassy heroine, and a to die for hero.
Roxie Treymayne is returning to Glory, the small town where she grew up, but she doesn't plan on being there long. Her plan is to ensconce her maid, Trundy there to care for Roxie's sick mother, and then Roxie will be headed to her glorious new life as a carefree divorcee.
Nick Sheppard also grew up in Glory and left to seek his fame and fortune elsewhere. He ended up in Atlanta and a member of the police department there. After his mentor got taken down as a "dirty cop" Nick decided to return to Glory and was appointed town sheriff.
Roxie and Nick will cross paths numerous times in Glory. Each time the heat level between them rises. Who knew that coming back to Glory could result in finding what you thought you were looking for, but wouldn't find except out in a bigger place than Glory?
I laughed, cried, and fell in love with TALK OF THE TOWN. Every character was so well written that they seemed as though they could jump right off the page and into a conversation with me at any time. Even the secondary characters that primarily reside in a nursing home were entertaining.
Now that I've read TALK OF THE TOWN there's two things I'm wishing for...1) a sequel for Roxie's Brother Mark and for his heroine to be the town dispatcher Susan, and 2) for Ms. Hawkins to continue to write her historical books for those fans, but to alternate with a fun sassy contemporary to satisfy her new fans.
Book Summary
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Karen Hawkins pens a delightfully sexy tale of modern love in a small Southern town.
Do Blondes Have More Fun?
Newly divorced Roxie Treymayne is dying to find out. After
years of being the perfect Southern lady, all she ended up
with was a cheating husband. So she goes bombshell blond,
gets a provocatively placed tattoo, and prepares to live it
up as a Bad Girl. But then her mother falls ill...and Roxie
is forced to return to Glory, North Carolina.
He'd Love to Know.
Once the town bad boy, Nick Sheppard is now Glory's highly
respected sheriff. When the hot blonde he stops for speeding
turns out to be formerly prim Homecoming Queen Roxanne
Treymayne, Nick doesn't quite know where to look -- though
he'd like a much closer one at the tattoo peeking from her
shorts.
But It Takes Two to Tango.
Roxie and Nick had a steamy fling in high school, but a love
affair between a Southern princess and a boy from the wrong
side of the tracks was doomed from the start. Now they have
a second chance. Can they get it right? Or will they just
end up...the talk of the town?
