Max Laurent and Maddy Green were dance partners at the Sydney Dance Company until eight years ago when Max left to care for his quadriplegic father, but they've never lost touch. When Maddy is told her professional dance days are over, the first person she turns to is Max. Living in the same flat for a prolonged period of time, it was inevitable that Maddy would finally realize why she came to Max for comfort. She loves him. But she's just as afraid to change things as Max is, will one of them be brave enough to take that leap of faith?

When the book starts, Max is a glutton for punishment and Maddy is amazingly self-involved. As their story progresses, Maddy becomes more aware of how the people around her feel and Max is realizes he needs to stop making self-sacrificing choices. It's when the two are able to understand their true priorities and act on them, the story reaches it's pleasantly satisfying end.
