Only a month has elapsed since Bobbie Faye Sumrall's last (mis)adventure, but things are starting to go to hell in a handbasket again. First at her job manning the gun counter at Ce Ce's Cajun Outfitter and Feng Shui Emporium, she has to talk Bible-thumper Maimee Parsons out of buying a Glock. Bobbie Faye has a sneaking suspicion that there's gonna be an accidental shooting of Maimee's longtime husband Edgar. (Just because he gambled away their savings doesn't mean he needs killing, right?) In the midst of trying to convince Maimee that a gun is a bad idea, Bobbie Faye's cousin Francesca waltzes in, announces that Bobbie Faye needs to help find some missing diamonds and then the bullets start flying.

Barely before she can catch her breath, Bobbie Faye is kidnapped, not once, not twice, but three times before leaving the parking lot at Ce Ce's. It seems various groups either want Bobbie Faye to find and turn over the diamonds to them or they want Bobbie Faye to forget about the diamonds and mind her own business. It becomes dizzying trying to keep all the players straight. But family is family and Bobbie Faye has no choice but to help out, despite her better sense.

What does last week's murder of a jeweler have to do with the missing diamonds? Who are the various groups after the diamonds? What do both the FBI and Homeland Security want with Bobbie Faye? Why does the governor of Louisiana cower under his desk when Bobbie Faye's name is mentioned? Will Bobbie Faye walk away from this mess alive?

Wow! Bobbie Faye and her wacky friends and family are like a train wreck. You don't wanna watch but you have to see what happens next. It's hard to believe there's anything left of the state of Louisiana after Bobbie Faye's done. Not a typical mystery, BOBBIE FAYE'S (KINDA, SORTA, NOT-EXACTLY) FAMILY JEWELS is a romp with lots of explosions, gunshots, kidnappings, rescues, voodoo magic and a hint of romance. Readers may find it more enjoyable if they've read the first Bobbie Faye book, though I followed along without any real trouble despite not reading the first book. I was genuinely surprised by a twist at the end of the story. Kudos to Ms. Causey for writing an enjoyable, funny mystery that's sure to please her fans and new readers alike.

Book Summary

It had been a whole freaking month since Bobbie Faye Sumrall had blown up anything or been shot at, and that was almost a new record. Then her diva cousin Francesca waltzed up to where she manned the gun counter in Ce Ce's Cajun Outfitter and Feng Shui Emporium and everything just went to hell. Fast.

Francesca's mom has disappeared with exceptionally valuable diamonds swiped from Francesca's dad (difficult marriage) so of course Francesca broadcast to every insane psycho that Bobbie Faye could recover the ersatz family jewels.

Accused of one man’s murder, Bobbie Faye’s on the run as an unintentional Pied Piper to a rabid band of thieves. She has to find the diamonds, figure out the motives of the dead sexy FBI agent who's pressing her for more than just the jewels, all while racing to side-step her steamy (and steamed) detective ex-boyfriend before the deadline arrives and the diamonds disappear.
