Remy lives a normal life. He married a woman he loves intensely; a woman who is dying of a horrible cancer. During an investigation, Remy witnesses a murder-suicide. As he deals with the detective from the police department, the two people are pronouced alive and taken to the hospital. Steven Mulvehill is the only other person who knows that Remy isn't human. He telss Remy of the many unusual cases of people who should have died but haven't across the city.

As the four horseman ride, Remy must find the angel of death and convince him to return to his duties.
